Well after battling the ‘down time’ of the online apple store early in the morning to get my order in, the sell out by 12pm and peoples orders getting put back.. the lead up to the 25th and watching the queues online outside the apple and o2 stores, then finally watching the trickle of my friends post on facebook that theirs had arrived… until eventually the TNT man turns up at work with mine!
and it was all worth the wait!
To anyone who has never experienced an iphone.. this probably seems as some devoted relgiious dogma’s and football followers do to me. But in my humble opinion… the iphone ‘does’ change everything. again!
Yes the HTC has more processor power, yes android is more open source and can play flash and the list goes on. However it was predicted years ago computing would get to a point when no more power than what was necessary is needed, and iphone 4is the epitmy of that.
Put it next to a nexus or htc and you wont tell the speed difference, apart from the iphone is quicker to get somewhere due to better usablity. The ‘clocked down’ a4 chip is clocked down to perfection, it does exactly what it needs to do and when it needs to without killing the battery life or draining uneccesary recources.
The phone may be less powerful, but it is so in the same way a elegant samurai sword is compared to a lumberjacks axe.. can the samurai cut down a tree? no.. but who the hell wants to? It does what its made for with perfection.. if I want to cut down a tree i’d get a chainsaw (or an ipad!)
Not only perfection within but the styling, build, usabilty functions and even multitasking are tuned perfectly to their purpose also. Some say ‘its not proper multitasking’ but who needs ‘proper multitasking’ on a phone.. it does the same job, quicker, using less processes and less battery! It does it perfectly, not clumsily. It blocks all porn and will never crash due to plugins like flash.
So i’ll stick with my samurai sword thanks.
Now to my first tests.. what can I say about the retina display that hasnt already been said, it doesnt get better than this! Touch to focus feature on the HD camera is great and finally the addition of an LED for night time shots… notice I say led, high intestity white LED.. not just a flash! Everything on the phone has been meticulously thought through to serve its purpose in the best possible way.

The real proof is usually in the pudding.. but after loving my 3GS over the past 12 months this is like having your favourite pudding with sprinkles on top! Im sure its only going to get better with time.
Although in years to come, probably even 2 or 3 years.. i will look back at this post and laugh at how behind this all is, much like I look at my NES and SNES sitting at home now next to my playstation 3 and the advancements of the new microsoft kinnect games!
Well I hope so anyway.. else what are boosts in the technological world like this all about!
